Our preschool
Modbury Preschool
At Modbury Preschool, we provide an enriching, play-based learning environment that is respectful, inclusive, and nurturing. Our children are supported to achieve their potential and develop into confident, independent learners.
Our curriculum fosters learning through a variety of experiences that encourage discovery and exploration while remaining engaging, challenging, and fun!
We promote active engagement with the natural world, recognising the importance of connecting children with nature. Our extensive outdoor environment invites exploration, provides opportunities for challenge, and inspires creativity.
Creating a welcoming atmosphere that encourages strong partnerships between educators and families is central to our success at Modbury Preschool.

Getting Ready for Reception
To support our families as children transition from preschool to primary school, we provide resources to help prepare them for Reception.
Safe Use of Digital Technologies and Online Environments
From 1 September 2025, a ban will be in place on the use of personal mobile devices in early childhood services. This policy aims to support a safe preschool environment and ensure parental consent is obtained before images of children are taken, used, or stored.
All staff, including volunteers, are not permitted to carry personal electronic devices capable of taking images when:
- working directly with children
- in spaces primarily used for children’s programs or services
- whilst children are attending the service.
Devices will be stored in educators’ bags, lockers, or the preschool front office. Smartwatches or devices without image/video capabilities may be worn at the service.
Parents are encouraged to refrain from using personal devices while at the preschool. While taking images of your own child is permitted, parents must not take images of other children, particularly during group events like sports days or concerts. Parents are also discouraged from sharing inappropriate images of children, such as those in swimwear.
Educators will limit children’s screen time in line with Australian Government physical activity guidelines by age which recommend:
|

|

No screen time |
|
24 months to 5 years |

Preschool contributions
The preschool contribution fee is $90 per term. This fee helps cover the costs of delivering a quality, government-funded preschool program. We appreciate families’ support in contributing to the ongoing success of our preschool.
Playgroup
Our Playgroup runs every Friday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in our preschool. All families are welcome to join for fun, socialising, and early learning opportunities.
When your child can start preschool
Your child is entitled to access 4 terms (1 year) of government preschool in the year before they start school.
Children who turn 4 years old:
- before 1 May, can start preschool at the beginning of the year
- between 1 May to 31 October, can start preschool in term 3 (mid-year intake)
- after 31 October, can start preschool at the start of the following year.
Regardless of whether your child starts at the beginning of the year, or through a mid-year intake they will attend 4 terms of preschool.
If you’re unsure about the best time for your child to start preschool or feel your child may benefit from starting preschool later, talk to us about your options.
Universal 3-year-old preschool will be rolled out in government preschools in stages from 2026 to 2032.
Universal 3-year-old preschool will be available at our preschool from 2029.
Early entry
Aboriginal children and children who are or have been in care are eligible for 15 hours of preschool a week after they turn 3, continuing until they start school.
If you have a child with a disability or additional needs, they might be able to start preschool earlier if there are places available. Talk to us if this applies to you. Early entry to preschool does not guarantee early entry to school.
Enrolling your child
You can register your interest to enrol your child with us by using the preschool registration of interest form (PDF 173 KB) . You can also contact us for a paper form.
Try to register your interest by 30 June, but you can do this any time during the year.
Priority will be given to children living in our catchment area. If you don’t live in our catchment area you should indicate at least 2 other preschool options on your form.
If we can give your child a place with us we’ll send you an offer letter in term 3. You can accept the offer by filling in and sending back the acceptance slip by the due date.
